Feelings of being burnt out can be overwhleming and isolating

  • Minimal time for friends, family or hobbies
  • Low energy levels
  • Feelings of being stuck or lost
  •  Wishing to spend the day differently

Over 80% of people are ready to make a change but more than 75% feel they are facing obstacles to making that change a reality.

Burn out is not only legitimate, but prevelant with more than 50% of workers experiencing some form of burnout. People are developing burn out for a variety of reasons including a lack of free time, but nearly a quarter of people are unwilling to make a change due to financial instability. Additionally, 73% of Americans rank finances as their number one stressor in life.

People are so frustrated that, of those leaving their job, more than 1 in 4 actually left without another job lined up and said burn out was a main reason for quitting. Sometimes we find ourselves in a position where we need to make a change regardless of consequence. Reducing the #1 stressor in one’s life can free up mental space to help find and pursue one’s own purpose on one’s own terms. It is essential to be in the financial and mental position to make these meaningful changes a reality.

People experiencing burnout have unique financial needs that require a specialized approach to financial coaching. Living with physical, emotional and/or mental exhaustion may not afford those experiencing burnout with the space to manage their finances in the same way as someone who is not experiencing burnout.  Burnout can have a significant impact on one’s ability to work and make income, which can in turn affect financial stability and the ability to meet one’s financial obligations.

Financial coaching for this group should focus on creating a sustainable and healthy balance between work and personal life. It should also take into account one’s current state, focus on building resilience and sustainability, and provide support that is tailored to their specific needs, including:

  • Prioritizing self-care and rest in the budget, rather than focusing solely on work and productivity
  • Identifying and addressing any underlying issues that may be contributing to the burnout
  • Assisting with debt management and strategies for reducing stress related to finances
  • Providing guidance on how to negotiate for a more flexible work schedule or reduced workload
  • Encouragment to take earned time off, if possible
  • Setting realistic financial goals that align with one’s current priorities, physical and emotional well-being
  • Helping to develop a plan to manage finances and achieve goals
  • Coaching on how to establish boundaries to protect work-life balance
